Spring retreats

Today feels like spring is in full swing and a long harsh winter finally gone.

I’ve been thinking about my next retreat – the fourth of the year, and have been doing a bit of digging to see what I can find in the way of spring time retreats.

I’ve picked out a few that caught my eye:

Closest to home where I live in London, is a day retreat at Inigo Enterprise Centre in New Malden, Surrey (non-residential) called ‘Send my roots rain – Spring renewal with the poetry of GM Hopkins’, from 10.30-4pm.

Othona Community in Southminster, Essex are holding a ‘Festival of Song’ retreat, from 23-25 April – ‘a weekend of heart warming harmonies, with songs and rhythms from around the world’.

The Chelmsford Diocesan House of Retreat in Pleshley is holding a retreat from 21-23 May – ‘The grass is bright with raindrops – a relaxed time for reflection and prayer encouraged by the poetry of William Wordsworth: the writer who loved the natural world, humankind and God’.

Clare Priory (Augustinian) in Sudbury, Suffolk are holding a retreat form 23-25 April called ‘Let the heavens rejoice, the earth be glad – a weekend to enjoy, reflect and pray with all of creation, including the dawn chorus.’

Another one that caught my eye (although not that relevant to me just yet) is a retreat at Belmont Abbey in Hereford, a Benedictine Monastery, from 14-16 May called ‘The courage to grow old – how do we face our autumn years with grace and love: how do we remain ‘still full of sap, still green’.

At Swarthmoor Hall in Ulverston, Cumbria there is a retreat from 4-7 May titled ‘Birds of the bay dawn chorus and bird reserve visits’.

Not directly related to spring, but with interesting themes:

Mill House Retreats in Tiverton, Devon are holding a day retreat ‘Relax at Rocknell’ – ‘keep body and soul together, massage and relaxation’ on 8 May.

Penhurst Retreat Centre are holding a retreat – ‘Exploring spirituality and religion – partners or rivals?’ from 9-11 May

Sacred Heart Priory (Dominican Sister) in Greenwich is holding a day retreat on 24 April, ‘Exodus Today – a reflective journey for pilgrims in the 21st century wilderness’.

Charney Manor, a Quaker retreat house in Oxfordshire is holding a journaling retreat – ‘Journaling as a spiritual practice’ from 23-25 April.
